She Don't Got a Lot to Say

I really want my future boyfriend to be named Eric. I think it comes down to my deep-seated love for The Little Mermaid. That was my favourite Disney movie ever. How unsophisticated and childish of me. It lacks the heart and soul of movies like The Lion King or the strong political/social message of movies like Pocahontas.

I don't care. Ariel was just so pretty with the floppy red hair and Prince Eric... Oh, Prince Eric. I think that was the movie that started my ongoing obsession with romantic comedies and various other romantically inclined media sources.

fyi Disney are bringing Little Mermaid back out of the vault, so it will be available on DVD again, soon.

I also loved The Little Mermaid and as much as the feminist side of me questions some of the messages it suggests, it has fun songs and talking sea creatures so I can't help but love it...though it ranks below Lion King and Mulan...

i've never even watched peter pan or alice in wonderland.. haha.. ha... yeah.

BUT HOLD UP A SECOND. isn't the little mermaid pro-feminist given she rebels against her father and all his patriarchal values and shit to live out her dreams of walking on land?

Also... DINGLEHOPPER. aw shit best invention ever.

ALSO I'VE NEVER SEEN BEAUTY + THE BEAST, SNOW WHITE, CINDERELLA (well they're both really old so u can't really hold that against me), FANTASIA, ALLADIN OR THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME.

my childhood basically consisted of rewatching the little mermaid, pocahontas, the lion king, mulan and the adventurers? i can't remember the name, the one with the mice and the seagull, OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

THE RESCUERS. (which I can't really remember tbh)

How do I know you? Peter Pan and Alice are classics. We will watch them together one day.

And agreed, DINGLEHOPPERS are the best.

Idk, it can be read in different ways...there's also the whole wanting to physically change herself, giving up her voice, etc for a man (Eric). In rebelling against her father, she subjects herself to the power of another man, etc, etc...I'm sure there are some good lessons in there too though...but enough of that.

Beauty and the Beast is great, though my memory of it is hazy...anything with talking clocks and teapots gets my approval. Snow White is impressive given it's age, not quite a feminist's dream, but the characters are entertaining enough. I enjoyed Cinderella as a child. Don't know if Fantasia has a story, I just remembered it was nice to watch. I had Aladdin on video, I liked it, but wasn't one of my favourites. I would also like to rewatch the Hunchback of Notre Dame... I can't believe you've seen so few classic Disney movies...

but she gets legs/wants legs before she ever meets eric. she wanted them so she could explore and not be imprisoned by her father's well meaning but ultimately oppressive will.

alice in wonderland just looks scary to me.
i've seen bits of fantasia and it just looks freaking weird to me. like on drugs weird.

WHOA land before time. that's not disney though, right?
