Maybe I Should Have Gone to Med Dinner...

I think I finally see the appeal of Jess Mariano.

I just bought seasons two, four and six of Gilmore Girls (because I bought one, three and five about half a year ago) and now have the complete series. Or what I consider the complete series because, let's be honest, season seven was a total joke. I mean, the Paris thing with Chris and Lorelai? I wanted to impale myself. And I LOVE Chris. He's just so dashing and sweet. The only good thing about season seven was that one scene where Lorelai breaks up with Chris. It's so bittersweet.

So anyway, back to Jess Mariano. I'm watching season seven at the moment when Jess comes back for one episode (although I think he comes back again later in the season anyway...) and he avoids Rory all day and leaves when he sees her. But then, at the Firelight Festival she sees him first and yells at him that it's her town and she gets to run away. When he catches up to her and she tells him how she's imagined this moment, wondering what he could possibly say to her after leaving without any explanation or goodbye... he just says, "I love you, Rory."

And it's beautiful. Because you see it all then. The loneliness, the hopelessness, the childishness in his eyes. He has noone and nowhere to go. I know that Jess turns out alright in the end but he was so cut up in the first few seasons. It's extremely sad and sweet (which would equal bittersweet but I've already used that word in this post) and just beautiful. The best stories are, right? Jane Eyre, for instance (although there's a happy ending ultimately).
Yeah, he's blind and has no hands or whatever (I can't remember) but he's reunited with Jane! The only woman he ever loved! Actually, it's slightly comparable to the dynamic between Jess and Rory...

This post made me so happy for some reason.

I really loved Jess as well - for me, it felt as though he was the only one who actually truly loved her. Sure, he leaves her, and freezes her out from time to time with his stoicism, but you can see how much he loved her. I never saw that with Logan, but. Logan and Rory seemed like a pairing where they were both satisfactory to each other, but neither was desperately in love with each other.

Jess was the person who really saw Rory, I think. He saw her as beautiful, he saw her as quirky and smart and funny and cultured - he saw her as this perfect person without exalting her. When Jess comes back to Yale and asks Rory to leave with him and she says no, that scene always breaks my heart. His expression, it just gets me bawling.

Season 7 is utter crap. I honestly forgot Chris and Lorelai did the Paris thing - I was repressing it for so long. Also, AS IF Christianne Amanpour would turn up at your mum's inn and offer you a fantastic job on the spot. As freaking if.

omg who is b??

i see what you mean with the logan thing. for logan it started as a challenge and then sort of became routine really quickly i think. he liked the idea of her, a steady girlfriend.. with dean, he was totally in love with her. she was perfect but i think yeah, it's true she was too good for him and they didn't have the same goals in life. it's fine for a high school romance but you see it in season 5. it can't go anywhere. they live in 2 separate worlds

but with jess it's like... i hate to say it but they're like ~ kindred spirits ~ you know... she's stable and he's lost and he doesn't know what he's doing and he's confused and even though she's the opposite, steadfast and has goals and is determined and level ehaded... they connect you know? like they were meant to be together. under it all they're very similar people.

WHO ARE YOU?
